Deaths Caused by Air Pollution in Europe

According to the European Environment Agency, particulate matter causes around 400,000 premature deaths each year in Europe. The most affected countries are Germany (66.000), Italy (60,000) and France (35,000). Concerning nitrogen oxide, there are 75,000 deaths for the entire Europe: 14,000 in the United Kingdom, 12,800 in Germany and 9,300 in France. According to these figures, we can better understand the issue behind the referral of six EU-Members to the ECJ, including Germany and France.
