Transport and Pollutant Emissions

In 2011, the French agency ADEME estimated that the transport sector was responsible for 56% of nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx), 15% and 18% of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5). The problem is even more acute in cities like Paris, where 58% of PM2.5 emissions are a consequence of road traffic. Indirectly, these emissions also contribute to the formation of ozone during heat peaks.
