Conservative parties in Germany against the Blue Badge

On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, the commission for the environment, nature protection, construction and reactor security of the German parliament held a debate about the topic “Air pollution caused by nitrogen oxides in large urban areas”. The CDU/CSU fraction (conservatives) vehemently opposed the introduction of the Blue Badge, which according to the fraction’s spokesperson for the environment would be “socially unjust for artisans, commerce and municipalities.” The fight against nitrogen oxides would only possible with a “complex bundle of measures”. The limits of nitrogen oxide emission set by the EU are exceeded in all big cities in Germany.
