Information about the Crit'Air Vignette
An Eco-Vignette being called Crit'Air was introduced to France on 1st July 2016. The Vignette can be divided in 6 categories and colours, always depending on the year of registration, the energy efficiency, and the vehicle's emission quantity.
Emissions and air pollutants will be reduced in the medium and long term, new and energy efficient vehicles will be promoted, old and polluting vehicles will be withdrawn from traffic little by little. Especially the emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and fine dust are supposed to be reduced by means of the Crit'Air Vignette.
The classification of the vehicles' types as there are trucks, buses, passenger cars, and other vehicles of the Crit'Air categories is controlled by a Décret Crit’Air 2016-858 from 29.06.2016.
The obligation of having a Crit’Air vignette in order to drive in the environmental zone in Paris has been introduced on 01.07.2016. On 01.11.2016, it has been introduced in Grenoble, and in Lyon on 12.12.2016.
In Paris, a transition period goes to the 14.01.2017. From the 01.07.2017, all types of vehicles will be charged in case of a missing Crit’Air vignette from 68 up to 375 euros.
Vehicles not being registered in France which are usually vehicles from tourists and other EU economy traffic are obliged to apply the Crit'Air Vignette only after 1st April 2017 on their vehicle, if these want to enter into a French environmental zone Zones à Circulation Restreinte (ZCR) within the prescribed timeframe.
