Persistent air pollution in Sarajevo

Every year, in winter, the air pollution season begins. Where does the problem come from? First of all, from the heating with coal and wood, which emits a lot of particulate matter. High nitrogen oxide emissions are due to car traffic and diesel vehicles, which account for two thirds of the national fleet in Bosnia and Herzegovina - some of which date back to before 1991. However, according to Bosnian environmental organisations, the authorities do not understand the seriousness of the situation.
