What to do against air pollution around ports?

Ships in ports are particularly polluting and emit as much pollutants as 10,000 to 30,000 vehicles. In Marseille, which is now the 4th largest cruise port in Europe, it is estimated that 10 to 20% of the particles are emitted by ship traffic. The reason for this is the type of fuel used: heavy fuel oil ("heavy fuel oil", HFO) is certainly cheap but much more polluting as others. The results of a study aimaing at classifying the Mediterranean as a SECA or even ECA area and thus reducing sulphur and nitrogen oxides will be presented on 06-07.09.2018 in Marseille.
