City toll: the example of Milan

While France is considering a legal frame to set up city tolls and reduce traffic in the centre of large cities, Milan could serve as a model. To enter the city centre during the week, drivers must pay an access fee, which can be paid online or directly on the spot. It is 5€ for visitors and 2€ for residents. A system of 43 cameras checks that the drivers comply with the rules as they pass through. In order to promote the cleanest vehicles (electric, hybrid, methane, liquid gas...), they have been exempted from charges.
