Air Quality Monitoring Aboard the Paris Balloon

Researchers have developed Lidar: an air quality monitoring tool. Thanks to a laser system, it allows pollutant concentration maps to be drawn up within a radius of more than 15 km. Embarked on board the Paris balloon, which also welcomes 60,000 tourists each year, the Lidar measures pollutant concentrations at 360° and at several altitudes. The objectives are multiple: obtaining more precise data, identifying the main sources of pollution, or raising public awareness.
